Barn Rats Club After School Program
What is a Barn Rat? When I was growing up and had horse fever, I could not stay away from the local riding schools where I was taking riding lessons. One hour lesson a week was just not enough! So after school my friends and I went there to learn and just hang out. We were called barn rats because they could not get rid of us!
Who can join? Barn Rats Club is open to all children ages 7-14.
When are the meetings? Barn Rats Club activities are scheduled every Monday and Friday from 3:30 pm until
6:00 pm. Start date is September 1st, 2010.
What are the activities? Barn Rats Club members will learn to feed, care for and ride horses through a variety of supervised barn lessons and riding lessons in the riding arena.
What will you learn? Feeding, grooming, haltering, leading, tacking up, horsemanship and barn management. Riding skills to be taught include; walk, trot and canter, basic vaulting, trail riding, cavaletti work (small jumps) and basic dressage (in that order).
What is included in the membership? Monday and or Friday meetings. Use of an ASTM approved helmet, all learning materials, workbook, T-Shirt, 2 riding lessons per month and an opportunity to go on field trips and shows. Invitations to all Barn Parties. All children will groom and handle our horses every meeting.
What is the Cost?
One day a week -Monday or Friday with 2 riding lessons per month=$75.00 per month due on the first day
of the month.
Two days a week -Monday and Friday with 4 riding lessons per month- $150.00 per month due on the first day of the month.
New memberships enrolled on the first day of the month only. Month by month membershp. All membership activities must be completed within the month.
